one day, my 3-year-old daughter said, out of the blue, that there were "weird noises coming from the east." i tried imagining the source and mixed in my own stories and visions of the east coast. cramped physically and expansive in the surreal layers folded over it. she shared a present with me that she couldn't possibly understand that helped me better understand the small background noises that dress our communities.
